Engineering Manager

This E&P Company is looking for an Engineering Manager, where you will be responsible for the management of all engineering aspects of this oil sands project. You will also be responsible the consistency, quality and integrity of the engineering deliverables for all disciplines, with a focus on innovation within engineering as a means to improve construction execution.
 

This Oil Sands Business Unit is looking for a Engineering and Commissioning Manager to lead and direct operations during commissioning and start up.  In this role, you will provide technical and operational input during Detailed Engineering to improve the effectiveness of the startup period. You will act as a key interface point between Operations and Construction to ensure a smooth transition at the critical time frame of construction completion and initiation of operations. Reporting to the Area Manager, you will be wholly responsible for the planning, preparation, and execution of the field and plant facilities commissioning and startup.

Specific responsibilities include:    

• Prepare the initial CSU cost estimate and track performance against the cost estimate
• Identify commissioning systems, prepare detailed work plans, schedule commissioning activities and execute these activities in the field
• Work with construction to clearly delineate the most effective strategy for simultaneous construction and operations activities during the construction completion phase
• Work with the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractor to identify design requirements and improvements to enable an effective start up
• Work with the EPC contractors to ensure turnover documentation is identified and provided to operations on a timely basis
• Identify commissioning spares requirements
• Provide guidance to operations staff on operating procedures and processes for operator training
• Work with operations to ensure policies, procedures, processes, and practices are followed 

Our ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

• A technical diploma in a related engineering discipline and ASET Certified Engineering Technologist designation is preferred
• A First Class Steam Ticket would be an asset 
• 15+ years of process operations experience with a leadership role in at least 2 process startups is required
• Operations and maintenance leadership experience is required
• Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage start up experience would be an asset
• Ability to read Process and Instrumentation diagrams
• Planning and estimating skills would be an asset 
• Proven track record of preparing equipment and process system set ups, startups, and operating practices 
• Demonstrated ability to advise on strategic decisions, influence successful outcomes, guide decision-making and problem-solving
• Timely decision making during critical operational cycles 
• A proven commitment to safety and the environment
