  • Managing a general accounting staff of six people
  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, financial statement preparation, coordinate annual audits, manage tax preparation efforts
  • Coordinate annual budget and interim forecasting processes, cash flow projections and oversee treasury management function

September 1999 – February 2001   Planning and Expense Management Functional Cost Accounting Manager for an American General/AIG company.
  • Responsible for surveying over 150 department managers, directors and VP’s and implementing a new functional cost model in Hyperion Pillar 4.6. 
  • This model was used to calculate DAC (deferred acquisition costs) in the amount of $100mm - $125mm per year.  This model also provided line of business, fixed versus variable and acquisition, maintenance and overhead allocation of costs.
 
July 1998 – August 1999  Accounting Manager for a Houston start-up divisional office of Pall Corporation (headquartered in Cortland, NY), a major manufacturer of industrial filter housings:
  • Responsible for opening local operating and payroll banking accounts
  • Implemented an accounts payable system using Dynamics software

  • Supervised a staff of five individuals performing A/P, A/R, product costing and financial reporting
  • Responsible for costing ProTech division gross profit statements, CIP inventory analyses, and preparation of month-end, quarter-end and annual financial statements
  • Coordinated closing schedules and annual audit PBC’s (prepared by client) workpapers.  Promotion to this position was the result of management’s recognition of my work in accounting for the organizational changes occurring after Merichem’s joint venture with Sasolchem, S.A.
 
May 1984 – January 1997  General Accountant and Cost Accountant for Merichem Company and Subsidiaries, a major producer of specialty intermediate chemicals:
  • Responsible for ever-increasing duties ranging from closing, costing and financial statement preparation duties
  • Participated in the annual budget process, audit coordination, fixed asset accounting and special projects for management.
  • Developed an approach to justify constitutional nexus for the Texas Franchise Tax  returns that saved $400k.
  • Dealt with foreign currency translation and consolidation of 4 entities’ financial statements

Harmon award recognizing outstanding service to the Houston Chapter.
  • Received favorable accolades from the Texas State Franchise Tax Auditor, performing a franchise tax audit on Merichem Company, for developing a model that substantiated constitutional nexus related to sales shipments made in states outside of Texas.
